Restoration Workshop April 8, 2017

Come out to the Juniper Flats Area and help restore unauthorized trails! This area has a splendid display of wildflowers and lots of trails to restore to a natural state. We need all the help we can get!

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is conducting a “restoration workshop” in the Arrastre Canyon Area of Juniper Flats on April 8, 2017 between 9am and 2pm. BLM staff will be restoring unauthorized trails. The public is invited to learn about different restoration techniques such as horizontal and vertical mulching.

The Worksite is above the community of Milpas Highlands near Apple Valley in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains. The site is near the junction of JF3330 (Powerline Rd.) and JF3355M (a motorcycle trail). 20170331_113925Volunteers can access the site with a high clearance vehicle or 4×4. Volunteers who do not have such vehicles are encouraged to contact Alyssa Canoff to make transportation arrangements.

Directions to the work site:

From Hwy 18 between Apple Valley and Lucerne Valley take Milpas Dr south. Milpas Dr turns to a dirt road over the railroad tracks. Continue up Milpas Dr to Santa Rosa and turn left (east). The Juniper Riviera Water District Office is at this corner. After turning onto Santa Rosa immediately look for Milpas Rd to the right after the house next to the water district office. Continue up the hill south on Milpas rd to the last two houses. Then turn onto the road between these two houses and continue south around the last house. This is where you need the high clearance as it is a bumpy unmaintained road. Pass the water tank to the Powerline Rd JF3330 and go right (west). Continue to the junction with JF3355m and park near a power tower.
